Memorial Day is closer than ever! A day to honor fallen U.S. soldiers, Memorial Day also serves as the unofficial start of the summer season. Many families gather for reunions, barbeques, and nights out in the town to celebrate such a significant day. In Miami, especially, countless activities are planned to ring on Memorial Day. Everything from outdoor parties to free concerts, to military shows and ceremonies – the possibilities are endless. To help you plan out your Memorial Day weekend, we’ve listed the top activities to mark Memorial Day. Let’s get started!
1. Hyundai Air & Sea Show @ Lummus Park
Miami’s biggest Memorial Day event is the Air & Sea Show in South Beach. This gigantic celebration will feature a massive array of military exhibits, live entertainment, food, and beverages. This two-day extravaganza will be located right on the beach, with patriotic concerts and exciting flyover shows by fighter jets and bombers. The Army, Navy, Air Forces, Marines, Coast Guard, and local firefighters, first responders, and police officers will be parts of the show. For the whole family, the event will also feature powerboat racing, water sports activities, sand sculptures, kid games, and acrobatics. The free show will be located over Ocean Drive (between 11th and 14th streets), with additional packages available for purchase.
2. The 16th Annual Best of the Best Music Fest
The Best of the Best Music Fest is the top celebration of Caribbean music and culture. To be located in Bayfront Park, this musical festival features, well, only the best of the best performers! The line-up includes reggae, hip-hop, and pop stars like Beres Hammond, Chris Martin, Patrice Roberts, and Cham amongst others. Also featured will be performances by comedian superstars Leslie Jones, Corey Holcomb, Steve Brown, and more! 3. Flamingo Gardens Memorial Day ‘Free Our Seas’ Opening Weekend
The iconic Flamingo Gardens will unveil a new exhibit this Memorial Day weekend! Called the “Free Our Seas” exhibit, this new park staple will feature art sculptures crafted from marine debris. 4. Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony
The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee will honor our country’s veterans with a community ceremony. The event will take place on Monday, May 30th at 11 AM. Free to attend and available to all who would like to give their respects.
